This morning (9/7/2024) our neighbors let us know a group of young people came through the Arch Street space this weekend. They smashed the downstairs windows to gain access to the building, and vandalized the free store space, adjacent garden, and workshop spaces. They left behind a trail of destruction (including broken glass) and spray painted on the windows, walls, and furniture. This morning, the Greenfield Fire Department was called to respond to a small fire they had also set in the space.
The decision to wreak destruction on a community space is a disappointing and disheartening one. To that end, Redistro is an entirely volunteer-based organization. It will take us some time– likely at least a week– to clean up and repair the careless damage caused, and make our space safe again.
We will be closed on Sunday, 9/8/24.
We thank our community for your continued support and patience. We ask that anyone who may have further information about this incident to reach out to us. We also encourage anyone who may have had a part in this incident to come forward. We are not interested in punitive action, but would like to engage in restorative conversation and practice around this event.
